The Perfect Gift for Junk Lovers

Good morning friends!! Do you ever feel like time is not your own? That is totally how I felt this week!

First up, I am a school board member and our superintendent decided to retire at the last minute, so we are in a rush to find a replacement. In the world of school, this is pretty late in the game to be starting a search for a superintendent, so we are trying to get the ball rolling as fast as possible.

I was honored with the task of leading a committee to select a search firm to handle a lot of this process for us. There is a lot that goes into finding a superintendent that is a good match for your school system and school personnel are already full with their normal tasks while board members work for free, so it’s common to hire a search firm to take care of a lot of the process.

For the most part the search firms do a similar task, but your lead consultant should be one you get along with and whose opinion you trust. And there minor differences in each firms process, so you pick what is important to the district. So, I was tasked to contacting search firms, and setting up appointments to listen to each one present their proposals.

My committee then met for 4 hours listening to firms and debating who we wanted to hire. So, much of this week has been devoted to school board responsibilities because we also had a regular meeting, work session, and finance committee meeting this week.

Then, there is the issue of my hubby’s truck! So we bought the truck in August of 2022, I think, brand new. It has broken down TWICE in the last month!

We live in BFE, rural southern Iowa, so the closest Ford dealership that can work on the truck is 45 minutes away. And of course every time it’s stopped running it has been on a Friday afternoon! Remember when your kids used to get sick and it was ALWAYS on a Friday night or weekend when you couldn’t see a doctor without going to the ER!!

The good thing has been that he has always broke down right next to our little local repair shop!

So, shortest version of the story is that dealing with Roadside Assistance has been an absolute nightmare. BOTH times we’ve had to deal with them. Taking hours of our time and money!!! Even though it is under warranty, brand new, blah, blah, blah. NIGHTMARE interactions with them.

Then, we’ve been without a vehicle 12+ days. I say plus days because it’s back in the shop! I went to Ottumwa to bring it home and on the way, it broke down AGAIN! Now the dealership has been wonderful to work with even thought that’s not where we purchased the truck. Needless to say we are looking into the Lemon Law and in contact with the dealership we did purchase the vehicle from and the dealership making the repairs has been in contact with Ford for us numerous times.

So frustrating! We bought a new car so we didn’t have to deal with issues like this!!

So, both of those events have taken my time this week. Luckily I guess it has been cold and snowing and raining so the kids evening activities keep getting canceled.

Listen in to hear what else we chatted about this week!

Have a great week my friends!
