I don’t know about you, but I like to decorate my kitchen!! Not so much decor that I can’t cook, and not so little that it looks uninhabited, but something just right. Today I’m sharing with you some kitchen counter decor ideas!!
Kitchen Layout
Floor Plan
Our main living area is very open. It’s basically one long room. At one end you have the kitchen with a center island that will sit 3. Past the kitchen is the mudroom. Off of the mudroom is a laundry room and garage. You can see more of the floor plan in this video I did right after we moved in a couple years ago! We’ve made a lot of changes!!
The kitchen is not necessarily what I would have picked, but it is definitely not in the budget to change anything. I do like dark wood cabinets, and the countertops are a really nice quality. It’s my first time having anything other than formica! But if I were to get to pick the finishes, I probably would have picked a white stone with a little marbling. Probably the finish I dislike the most is the backsplash!
I heard someone say once that if you don’t like something, just decorate it! That is probably one of the reasons I am a fan of countertop decor! It’s great at disguising those things I don’t like! So you will notice that I have a mirror and breadboard covering up some of the backsplash so that it is less noticeable!

Vignette Layout
What do I like in my decor? Vintage, green, and neutrals! I consider mixed metals a neutral! If they have wear and patina, then they are often muted and dull which blends in perfectly with my other neutral pieces. While I probably change out the decor on my island the most, basically everything but one corner has changed as I sell or find new pieces.
The location of the vignettes have not changed. I typically have something to the left of the stove trying to cover up the outlet and backsplash. On the right of the oven there is a corner that has stayed pretty consistent. My stacked vintage green breadboxes fit in pretty nicely there! I just change what is around them. This is also typically where we keep our bananas and sometimes other produce.
To the right of the sink is where we have a phone jack, so I normally stick a vignette in front of that. It has to be fairly small in size because this is also where we set our coffee maker every morning! I recently added a new to me green McCoy mixing bowl and use it to store my onions!
